The Sands of Freedom Tour was an amazing success! Guests experienced the trip of a lifetime exploring iconic landmarks along the historic coastline, with exclusive access to special properties and exquisite collections.
From La Pointe du Hoc to the American Cemetery, the original drop zones of the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions to La Piere Bridge, so much historic ground was covered in just under one week. One of the most compelling days of the tour included a visit to the Museum’s US Naval Combat Demolition Units/Scouts and Raiders Monument Park at Omaha Beach in Normandy.
Predecessors to today’s Navy SEALs–the Naval Combat Demolition Units and Scouts and Raiders–began the story of today’s modern warriors, their blood written in the sands of the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, D-Day. The Monument Park was a cooperative effort of the French and Americans, designed, constructed, and dedicated in under 20 months in honor of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. This was only made possible by generous Museum donors.
