Support the National Navy SEAL Museum and its Trident House Charities Program. Join us at Zydeco Brew Werks Craft Brewery in Tampa, Florida with Captain Phillips and some of the SEAL snipers who executed his dramatic rescue in April of 2009 from pirates who hijacked the Maersk Alabama lifeboat–the very one on display in the Museum today.

On April 8, 2009 four Somali pirates attempted to hijack the United States-flagged container ship Maersk Alabama, transporting humanitarian aid bound for Kenya, while sailing off the coast of Somalia. Largely outnumbered by the crew members, the pirates decided to abandon the 508-foot long ship, sailing off instead in one of its lifeboats. They took captive Maersk Alabama’s captain, Richard Phillips, as ransom.

Subjugated for five days in imminent danger, Captain Phillips was ultimately rescued by an elite team of sharpshooting Navy SEALs.This story remains largely untold, but you can hear it live from Captain Phillips and the warriors who rescued him.
