CEP3 Salas was diving a closed circuit rig while in Turkey when UDT22 was on the USS Lindenwald.. It is believed he suffered from oxygen poisoning, and he headed for the bottom. He dragged his partner down to about 80 ft or so before he cut loose. Several dives were made that day and the next, but his body was not recovered.
